The Proposal Story

It’s Wedding Wednesday AND Valentine’s Day on the blog so I thought it would be fun to share the story of how Taylor proposed.

One morning I woke up really early (around 4:30am) because the hallway light was shining in our bedroom and I noticed that Taylor was up. I groggily asked him what he was doing up so early and he told me that he had a surprise for me.  He told me that instead of going to work in a few hours we had to pack our bags because we were flying to Disney World so that we could go to the Halloween Party. This was the sweetest gesture because Disney holds a very special place in my heart and I had never been to the Halloween Party before and I had always talked about wanting to go.

I was in total shock! I kept asking, “Really?!” because I honestly couldn’t believe it. He even found a way to email my boss to ask if I could have the days off of work – and I had no clue! And because I’m a crier, I was in tears.

I finally realized that I didn’t have a costume to wear to the Halloween Party and asked him what we were going to wear. He told me not to worry about that because we were going as Mary Poppins and Bert, which was something we had always talked about doing. His family was also in on the surprise and they bought my outfit and his sister made my hat.

The first full day of our trip we went to Magic Kingdom for the Halloween Party dressed as Mary Poppins and Bert. Now, full disclosure – I had no idea that this trip was happening to begin with but after he surprised me with it, I had an idea that this was when he was going to pop the question. So the whole day at Magic Kingdom I was thinking of when he was going to propose. He took me to the Beauty and the Beast themed restaurant called Be Our Guest for dinner and I for sure thought he was going to propose there! I was so nervous I didn’t even eat much of my meal, but he never got down on one knee.

After dinner we went to go find a place to watch the Halloween Parade in front of the castle.  While we were waiting for the parade to start, I suggested that we take a picture in our costumes. Taylor went up to one of the Disney photographers and handed her his phone. And while we were taking pictures he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Everyone along the street that was also waiting for the parade to start started cheering and clapping for us. It was a moment I will never forget.

But I am embarrassed to admit that once I saw him go down on one knee I got so nervous and excited that I didn’t remember exactly what he said other than “Will you marry me?” Luckily, I asked him to write what he said down on a note in his phone later that night so that I will always have his exact words to look back on.

And now Disney holds an even more special place in my heart.
