Happy Monday everyone! For the past few weeks Taylor and I have ordered HelloFresh boxes for our week night dinners. I thought that it was about time to give my honest review on this meal delivery service now that we’ve had a few boxes delivered! I want to start this off by saying that this post is in no way sponsored. I just want to be able to help anyone out that might be considering ordering from this meal service.
First things first is the ordering process. Once you create an account on HelloFresh you select the type of plan you want (classic, veggie, or family plan) as well as the plan size. I break down the differences in each plan below. Once that is selected, you can choose the day of the week you’d like your box delivered (Monday – Saturday). You can’t select the time of day your box gets delivered, but it will be delivered between 8am and 8pm on your selected delivery day.
- Classic Plan:
- Has the widest variety in recipes that include meat, fish, and seasonal produce
- Can choose to serve 2 or 4 people
- Can choose between 3 or 4 recipes a week
- Veggie Plan:
- Vegetarian recipes
- Can choose to serve 2 or 4 people
- 3 recipes a week
- Family Plan:
- Quick and easy meals that the whole family will love
- Serves 4 people
- Can choose between 2 or 3 recipes a week
**Remember that once you sign up for a plan, it will automatically send you a box each week unless you go into your account and skip a week or cancel your plan.
HelloFresh is great about giving variety in the meals that they offer every week. Every week I log onto my account through their app to see what the meals are for the upcoming week. They give you about 8 different options – 1 of them being a premium option (dishes that usually have a more expensive meat/ingredient and charge you an additional $5 per person for that week if this dish is selected). One dish is usually a “Hall of Fame” option meaning that it’s a fan favorite. Another dish is a “20 Minute Meal” which means it takes less time to make than their other dishes (it may take you longer than 20 min). Just be sure to log in and edit your selections before the date that they give you to make changes by – otherwise you will get the pre-selected options.
If you’re nervous about the quality of food and how it stays fresh, don’t be! The way they pack their boxes is designed to keep all of the food from going bad. At the bottom of each bag are ice packets used to keep your meats cold. And let me tell ya, these ice packets do not melt quickly! We once left out a box for over a day (after we had already unpacked the food that was in it), and the ice packets were still frozen. Next, they put a cardboard divider in between your meat and the individual bags that contain the produce and other ingredients for each meal you’ve ordered. Lastly, each box contains recipe cards for each of the meals you have selected for that week.
Cooking the Meal
Cooking the meal is really easy! Each recipe card has a picture of what the dish looks like on the front and step by step instructions along with pictures on how to make the dish on the back. My only peeve with HelloFresh is that it almost always takes me longer to make a meal than it says on the recipe card. I think the main reason it takes so long is because of the prep work. Almost every meal requires you to chop up some kind of produce, which takes up a good chunk of time. Other than that, it’s a breeze!
As someone who doesn’t like going to the grocery store all that often, this was perfect for me! Yes, you could get your own groceries for cheaper but I wouldn’t be getting the variety of food that I do get with these boxes. And I don’t know about you, but after a while, I get in a rut of making the same types of dishes. What I’ve loved most about this service is learning how to cook and prepare certain types of dishes that I otherwise would’ve never thought to have cooked. It’s even better when you make your own meal and find that it’s a dish that you love and want to make again!
If you’ve been wanting to try HelloFresh, I highly suggest it!
