This time of year can get crazy with all the holiday hustle and bustle, but it’s important to take some time and truly reflect on what’s important in life – being thankful for what we have and giving to those who aren’t as fortunate.
I know this year has been tough on a lot of people, especially financially, so if you’re not able to give back in a financial way, you can always give your time. And if you’re fortunate to be in a position to give back financially, no amount is ever too small. Every little bit helps 🙂
So if you need ideas, I’ve listed out some of my favorite organizations below! And I hope you join me in giving back this holiday season 🙂
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – Here you can help donate to childhood cancer treatment and research. I love that no family receives a bill from St. Jude for anything
Ronald McDonald House Charities – Their programs, located near top children’s hospitals, allow parents who are far from home to stay close to their hospitalized child and benefit from the comforts of home without incurring hotel and food costs. I was fortunate to work here as an intern in college and so it has a special place in my heart.
Toys for Tots – Help them deliver millions of toys to children in need at Christmas
Feed the Children – Each dollar donated will provide $7 worth of the food and essentials they are working tirelessly to get into the hands of the most vulnerable in the US and around the world.
No Kid Hungry – Working to end child hunger in America today by ensuring that all children get the healthy food they need every day to thrive.
Feeding America – The Feeding America network is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, working to connect people with food and end hunger.
Breast Cancer Research Foundation – Helps to prevent and cure breast cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research.
Doctors Without Borders – Global first responders to emergencies, epidemics, and natural disasters. Make a donation online today to help provide lifesaving care around the world.
The Humane Society – They take on the big fights to stop cruelty before it happens. We’re working to end puppy mills, factory farms, trophy hunts, animal testing and other cruel industries so we can achieve the vision behind our name: a humane society.
Domestic Shelters – Survivors of domestic violence often flee abuse with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Most shelters provide survivors everything they need to start over from bedding and towels to toothbrushes and shampoo. And they do it for free! And that’s why shelters need your help by donating items on their wish list.
Human Rights Coalition – The Human Rights Campaign envisions a world where every member of the LGBTQ family has the freedom to live their truth without fear, and with equality under the law.
The Innocence Project – We exonerate the innocent through DNA testing and reform the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice.
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children – The NCMEC works tirelessly to lead the fight against abduction, abuse, and exploitation
RAINN – (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. They created and operate the National Sexual Assault Hotline and also carry out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
End the Backlog – Founded by actress and activist Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order: SVU), End the Backlog focuses on shining a light on the thousands of untested rape kits that sit on police station shelves across America. End the Backlog has not only raised awareness but has launched a nationwide campaign to pass comprehensive rape kit reform legislation in all 50 states.
The National Center for Victims of Crime – Advocates for victims’ rights, trains professionals who work with victims, and serves as a trusted source of information on victims’ issues. After more than 25 years, they remain the most comprehensive national resource committed to advancing victims’ rights and helping victims of crime rebuild their lives
Cold Case Foundation – We are dedicated to stopping the deadly compounding effect of cold cases and providing hope and resources to families affected by violent crime.
